Why the iPhone App Model needs to change

Friday, August 15th, 2008

I was just thinking this same thought about the iPhone App Store model when Steven F. went ahead and wrote this blog post, summarizing my thoughts exactly.  In his post he discusses the IAmRich application that sold for $999 and was recently removed the app store based on Apple’s “judgement call” - not a direct violation of any developer guidelines.  What’s especially amusing about this is the app might have never existed or received nearly as much attention if iPhone apps could be released and sold just like any other piece of software.

I’m going to openly speculate that when Android drops later this year we’re going to see something a bit more developer-friendly force Apple’s hand to let programmers release their works on their own terms as well as through the App Store.  At least, I’m hoping.
